 I’ve been running this blog since 2014, and during that time I’ve watched so many idol groups debut and eventually say goodbye. So in this post (Part 1!), I wanted to look back at some of my favorite disbanded idol groups. 

Listing some of them and my favorite songs! Will do more parts so it doesn't end up being too long

 

my Favorite UNIDOL girls (December 2025)

 I've posted about UNIDOL groups before (chocolat lumière and Natsumezaka46 come to mind) but if you don't know what it is: 

UNIDOL is a nationwide inter-university competition where female college students perform idol-style dance covers. 

 

Anyway, there are many amazing girls (a few become actual idols later)!

Here are my current favorites:

 It's been so long since I made one for Arc Jewel. They had big changes in lineups these past years...

Horror and Dark themed Idol Groups (October 2025)

 

BELLRING SHOUJO HEART

BELLRING少女ハート 

Tokyo-based Japanese idol group formed in 2012. They are noted for crow-themed black outfits with feathers and a style mixing idol pop with punk, rock, and experimental elements. The group was active until 2016, briefly reunited in 2022, and reformed in 2023 with a new lineup.

 

 Cinder-ella

シンダーエラ

Formed in 2019 under Cross Idea. Their concept draws from the Cinderella motif, reinterpreted through dark, gothic, and rock influences combined with idol performance.

  

JyuJyu

じゅじゅ

 Established in 2014 under Cross Idea. The group’s concept revolves around dark, “cursed” themes, often exploring jealousy, envy, and the more unsettling sides of society through music and visual presentation.

 

Konton Shoujo

混沌少女 

Formed in 2022 in Tokyo. Their concept is influenced by menhera kei, emphasizing emotional instability, chaos, and darker psychological themes.

 

LyricHolic

リリックホリック

Their concept blends visual kei, gothic imagery, and heavy rock/metal elements with idol performance.The group has gone through several member changes, with the current lineup active since 2023.

 

maleficium

Originally formed in 2014 as Aphrodite and renamed in 2023. Their style combines dark visual aesthetics with symphonic, gothic and rock elements. 

Phantom Siita  

ファントムシータ

Formed in 2024 and produced by Ado, they have a retro-horror concept, blending nostalgic idol aesthetics with eerie, unsettling visuals and themes. Originally five members, now four after Hisui's departure. They have already held a Budokan solo concert and launched a world tour within their first year.

 

 

 VILLAINS HOUSE

 Formed in 2024 under Circle Lychee. Their concept is based on a haunted house theme, drawing on horror imagery in performance and music.
